The Importance of Giving Back | Introducing: For Homeless People

This is about a charitable initiative that I am so excited to be a part of and is a cause close to many of our hearts, I am sure. See what 'For Homeless People' is all about and how you can help...

A few months ago, my cousin approached me about joining a team that she was putting together, to actively do something to help to tackle homelessness in Birmingham. Without much hesitation, I agreed. Now, I don't live in Birmingham but I do work there and studied there as well. I have encountered a lot of people who have nothing in the world but the clothes on their back. I've always tried to help individuals where I can but the idea of joining a team felt right.

We met up on a Saturday, so that Naomi could explain the heart behind the project and make plans on how we were going to bring this together logistically. It was a great couple of hours together. I could tell that the others were passionate, which was very important.

Our first Saturday outing was a massive success. We came equipped with food, put bags together, prayed and then headed out into the city centre.

We met amazing people and to see them cry and say 'thank you', simply because we stopped to acknowledge them and offer help was heartbreaking but wonderful, all at the same time. I lost track of time of how long we were out and about because I was genuinely enjoying myself.

I know that there will be some naysayers who don't think that it's much use to go out as a group of less than 10 people and try to feed homeless people because homelessness is such a big problem - especially in a city like Birmingham. Allow me to challenge your perspective. Each person that you meet is an individual. They are completely unique. They have their own story. Their own struggle. Their own destiny and future. You don't know what knock-on effect it may have to reach out to even one person.

As a team, we have made a commitment with both our finances and our time but we cannot do all that we wish to alone. This is where you can help. We have set up a gofundme page to allow people to donate towards For Homeless People, so that we can do even more for the homeless that we are building relationships with, especially as the cold nights draw in.

We are getting closer to our target every day. Even if you only have £1, every single donation will be a massive help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and even sharing this post or the gofundme page will be greatly appreciated.

See you soon.

Lots of love,
Melly
